Smart light-responsive materials

Smart light-responsive materials

This hardback book explains smart light-responsive materials based on azobenzene polymers and liquid crystals. It explains their functionalities and properties that have been realised through rational design.
It includes coverage of photo-induced phenomena in supramolecular azobenzene materials and how amorphous azobenzene polymers can be used for light-induced surface patterning.

Light-responsive 2-D motion and manipulation in azobenzene-containing liquid crystalline polymer materials and the photo-turning of the helical structure of cholesteric liquid crystals are reviewed also.

This book was edited by Yue Zhao and Tomiki Ikeda. Yue Zhao is a professor of chemistry at the University of Sherbrooke. With more than 100 publications to his credit, Dr. Zhao’s research interests centre on the design, synthesis, and applications of new polymer and liquid-crystalline materials and Tomiki Ikeda is professor of polymer chemistry at the Tokyo institute of Technology. Professor Ikeda is a leading authority in light-responsive materials and liquid crystalline materials.
